Historically, forwarding plane control has been nearly synonymous with SDN. However, real-world experiences have shown that device-centric and network-wide service configuration are also essential parts of the overall SDN picture. The ONOS community is working on platform capabilities that will enable network operators to use a model-driven approach for provisioning and configuring their environments using YANG as a modeling language and NETCONF & RESTCONF as standard protocols for interacting with network devices and with various orchestration platforms. Our goal is to offer these capabilities in the context of high-availability and while preserving the scalability and performance characteristics of the ONOS distributed controller platform. This talk will provide the audience with an update on these efforts, our experiences and our vision for these features.
