Scott Shenker

Scott Shenker and Sylvia Ratnasamy are Professors of Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Scott has worked in a wide range of networking topics, and was one of the central figures in the creation of Software-Defined Networking. In addition to his academic research, he was founding CEO of Nicira Networks and a founder of Databricks, a leading data analytics company. Sylvia won the Grace Murray Hopper Award in 2014 and the SIGCOMM Rising Star Award in 2011, and was one of the coinventors of Distributed Hash Tables. She was also one of the first to explore the use of commodity processors for high-speed packet forwarding, which is a key enabler for NFV. For the past five years, Sylvia and Scott have worked together on various aspects of NFV, and have recently founded Nefeli Networks to provide a new generation of NFV tools.
